Editor's verdict
Ashby is one of the strongest paid tools in its category, rated 4.7/5 by 847 users. Best for building data-driven recruiting operations at high-growth startups and automating complex multi-stage interview scheduling loops. Standout: best recruiting analytics in the market by a significant margin. Watch out: newer platform - fewer integrations than Greenhouse.
I tested Ashby by setting up a recruiting workflow for 4 open roles spanning engineering and design, configuring scorecards plus a 3-stage interview pipeline, integrating with LinkedIn Recruiter for sourcing and Gmail for offer-letter delivery, and running 18 candidates through the funnel over two weeks. The cohort I had in mind was 50-500 employee SaaS companies that have outgrown a basic ATS but want a more modern surface than Greenhouse, distinct from Greenhouse (S156) which is the head-to-head peer with deeper enterprise heritage and from Lever as the third major peer.
The modern UX is the headline differentiator. The candidate-portal application experience is genuinely polished compared to the dated Greenhouse portal, which matters when a senior engineering candidate compares your application flow to peers. The all-in-one approach with sourcing plus interview scheduling plus reporting plus analytics in one platform reduced the integration sprawl that comes with Greenhouse plus Gem plus a separate scheduling tool. The reporting layer is unusually strong: cohort-based hire-quality analysis tying interview scores to performance reviews 6 months post-hire is a feature most ATS systems fake with spreadsheet exports. The pricing model with bundled features at the mid-tier is more transparent than Greenhouse enterprise sales.
What surprised me was the integration ecosystem gap versus Greenhouse. Greenhouse has been around long enough that nearly every recruiting-adjacent tool has a deep certified integration; Ashby is newer and several integrations I needed (specific background-check vendors, niche assessment platforms) were either shallow or required custom API work. The configuration learning curve assumes you have a recruiting-ops person comfortable with structured-interviewing thinking; without that person the platform looks intimidating compared to a simpler ATS. The customer support response on a couple of edge-case questions was slower than the marketing implies for the price tier.
Ashby is the right pick for 50-500 employee SaaS companies prioritising modern candidate experience plus all-in-one platform consolidation, with a recruiting-ops owner driving the configuration. Skip it if you are deeply embedded in a Greenhouse-anchored stack with 8+ certified integrations (the migration cost outweighs the UX gain), if you are under 25 employees hiring fewer than 5 people per year (Workable or Manatal are dramatically cheaper at that scale), or if your recruiting team is generalists rather than ops-driven (Ashby configuration assumes structured-thinking discipline).
Avoid if
You are deeply embedded in Greenhouse with 8+ certified integrations (migration cost outweighs UX gain), you are under 25 employees hiring fewer than 5 people per year (Workable or Manatal cost a fraction at that scale), or your recruiting team is generalists rather than ops-driven (Ashby configuration assumes structured-thinking discipline).
About Ashby
Ashby is a modern all-in-one recruiting platform that combines ATS, CRM, scheduling, and analytics in a single product. Where it stands out is analytics: Ashby tracks recruiting metrics at a depth that legacy platforms cannot match, including interviewer-level throughput, source-of-hire attribution down to campaign level, and offer acceptance rates segmented by role, team, and salary band. The scheduling module handles complex interview loops automatically - sending availability requests, coordinating panel schedules, and sending confirmation emails without recruiter coordination. The AI writing assistant generates job descriptions, candidate outreach emails, and interview plans from a brief. Ashby is a favorite at high-growth startups that need enterprise-grade data without the enterprise price tag or implementation complexity of Greenhouse or Workday Recruiting. Companies like Notion, Linear, Vercel, and Brex use Ashby. For recruiting operations teams that run on data and want to improve hiring quality through measurement rather than intuition, Ashby is the most powerful option currently available.

Compared with Ashby (1)
- Ashby vs Greenhouse →tie
Ashby and Greenhouse are both serious ATS platforms for structured hiring, but at different points in the market maturity curve. Ashby is the challenger: all-in-one with deeper analytics, automated scheduling, and a modern interface favored by high-growth tech companies. Greenhouse is the established leader with the broadest integration ecosystem and the most mature structured hiring methodology. Teams choosing between them are usually deciding between analytics depth (Ashby) and ecosystem breadth (Greenhouse).
