Editor's verdict
Frase is a solid paid pick, rated 4.3/5 by 980 users. Best for seo blog post research and outlining and competitive content gap analysis. Standout: sERP-based content briefs from top-ranking competitors. Watch out: no free plan - Solo plan starts at $15 per month. Starts at $15/mo with no free tier.
I have used Frase for MytheAi blog content briefs and SERP-driven outline generation since Q2 2024. The Solo plan at $14.99 per month covers 30 monthly content briefs plus AI writer credits, sufficient for the 4 to 6 articles per month MytheAi publishes. Tested specifically as a SERP analysis plus content brief generator alongside Surfer SEO and Clearscope.
The SERP analysis flow is the genuine workflow win. Pasting a target keyword (for example, best AI tools for marketing) pulls the top 20 ranking pages into a side-by-side comparison view: word counts, header structure, common questions, frequently mentioned entities. Building a brief takes 8 to 12 minutes versus 45 to 60 minutes manually scraping SERPs. The auto-generated outline (H1 plus 5 to 7 H2s plus 2 to 3 H3s per section) is editable inline and exports to Google Docs with formatting preserved. For a non-technical content team this collapses brief creation from a half-day exercise to under 15 minutes.
Where Frase falls short: the AI writer (built on GPT-3.5 then GPT-4) produces decent first drafts but quality lags Claude 3.5 Sonnet or GPT-4o running on the equivalent prompt directly. Brief credits cap at 30 per month on Solo which forces an upgrade to the Basic plan at $44.99 per month for higher-volume content teams. The interface feels dated versus newer entrants (NeuronWriter, Scalenut), with slow page transitions on the brief builder. SERP data refresh frequency is weekly which lags Surfer SEO daily refresh on competitive head-terms.
For solo content marketers, freelance SEO writers, and small in-house teams publishing 5 to 15 articles per month, Frase at $14.99 is the right pick: SERP analysis depth is comparable to Surfer SEO at one-third the price, and the brief workflow saves real hours per article. For high-volume content factories (50+ articles per month), enterprise SEO teams needing daily SERP refresh, or teams that want best-in-class AI writing as the primary output, Surfer SEO at $89 plus or Scalenut at $39 plus offer materially deeper tooling.
Avoid if
You publish 50+ articles per month where Surfer SEO or Scalenut volume tooling materially outperforms. Your brand voice requires best-in-class AI writing where Claude or GPT-4o running the prompt directly outputs higher quality. Or your SEO team needs daily SERP refresh on competitive head-terms where Frase weekly cadence shows visible lag.
About Frase
Frase is an AI-powered SEO content platform that combines content briefing, competitive research, and AI writing into a single workflow. The briefing engine analyses the top-ranking pages for any target keyword and extracts the topics, questions, headings, and entities they cover, compiling a comprehensive outline that gives writers a clear blueprint for outperforming existing content. The AI writing assistant then helps draft content around this brief, ensuring coverage of the key topics that search engines reward without requiring manual research across dozens of competing pages.
Where general-purpose AI writers like Jasper or Copy.ai are stronger for marketing copy and brand voice, Frase is specifically built for SEO-driven content production. The scoring system shows how well a draft covers the identified topics compared to competitors, guiding writers toward more comprehensive content before publishing. Teams using Frase typically reduce content research time significantly per article while improving the consistency of topic coverage across a site. The Solo plan starts at $15 per month for one user and five documents per month. The Basic plan at $45 per month is more practical for teams producing consistent content volume, with unlimited documents and AI writing credits included.

Frase on MytheAi
Compared with Frase (2)
- Frase vs Surfer Seo →tie
Frase and Surfer SEO are both AI-powered SEO content tools, but they approach the problem differently. Frase focuses on the full content workflow from research and brief to draft, with a stronger emphasis on AI-assisted writing. Surfer SEO focuses on in-editor optimisation scoring and SERP data analysis, with a stronger emphasis on keyword density and competitor benchmarking. Many serious content teams use both together - Frase for briefing and drafting, Surfer for scoring and refinement.
- Frase vs Scalenut →tie
Scalenut vs Frase compares two all-in-one SEO content platforms that both aim to take you from keyword to published article in one workflow. Frase's strength is the research and briefing phase: it rapidly aggregates what the top-ranking pages cover and makes that information accessible to writers in a clean interface. Scalenut goes further by adding Cruise Mode, which chains keyword research, brief generation, and AI writing into a single automated flow. For content teams that primarily need better briefing and research speed, Frase is simpler and gets the job done. For teams that want the briefing and writing fully integrated and automated, Scalenut reduces the manual steps. Both are priced accessibly relative to Surfer and Clearscope, making them popular choices for growing content teams that cannot yet justify premium pricing.
