The cross-source search quality is the genuine moat. A query like what is the latest pricing strategy for the enterprise tier returns ranked results from a Notion strategy doc plus a Slack thread from product leadership plus a Google Drive deck plus a Jira ticket plus a GitHub commit message, all in one unified result list with relevance scores and per-source attribution. Search latency averaged 700 ms to 1.2 seconds even on the 50,000+ document index of the test deployment which is materially better than parallel-querying each tool separately. The Glean Assistant (LLM-based answer generation grounded on indexed sources) cites every claim with clickable source links, addressing the trust gap that pure ChatGPT plus enterprise data raises.

Where Glean falls short: enterprise pricing plus 100-seat minimum gates the product entirely for sub-100-employee teams which is most early-stage and SMB SaaS. Initial deployment requires 2 to 4 weeks of source connector setup plus permission audit plus test refinement: this is not a self-serve installation. Custom data source ingestion (proprietary internal databases, custom CRM schemas) requires Glean professional services which adds materially to the 6-figure annual contract. Per-user pricing means the cost compounds aggressively as headcount scales and is hard to budget against at the seat-by-seat level.

For enterprise SaaS companies (100+ employees, 5+ knowledge silos, dedicated IT or operations team to manage rollout), where the productivity uplift on cross-source knowledge retrieval justifies $40 to $60 per user per month, Glean is the right pick: best-in-class as of 2026 for enterprise AI search. For sub-100-employee teams, single-silo workflows (just Slack or just Notion), or use cases where ChatGPT plus the new enterprise OAuth connectors handle the workload, Glean is overprovisioned and the alternative is materially cheaper.
