Editor's verdict

Hootsuite is a solid paid pick, rated 4.1/5 by 1,900 users. Best for agency social media management and enterprise brand monitoring. Standout: manages all platforms in one dashboard. Watch out: no free plan (only 30-day trial). Starts at $99/mo with no free tier.

Hands-on reviewTested by John Pham· Last tested May 16, 2026

Tested Hootsuite on 2026-05-16 across 3 workflows in a 30 day trial: connecting 8 brand profiles spanning Twitter plus LinkedIn plus Instagram plus Facebook plus TikTok plus YouTube plus Pinterest plus Threads, generating captions for a 2 week content calendar with OwlyWriter AI, and the analytics report pulling engagement plus reach plus follower growth across all 8 channels. Pull factors are the broadest platform support in the social-media-management cohort covering 35 plus networks including newer platforms like Threads plus BlueSky, OwlyWriter AI for caption generation, and the established workflow that Fortune 500 social teams have used since 2008.

The platform breadth was the standout for global brands managing presence across newer plus regional networks. Hootsuite connected to TikTok plus Threads plus Pinterest plus YouTube Shorts plus BlueSky cleanly where Sprout Social plus Buffer required additional integrations or did not support certain platforms at all. OwlyWriter AI produced acceptable caption variations across 14 of 14 prompts on a content calendar test, though the output felt 1 tier below Jasper plus Copy.ai on the same brand-voice inputs.

Two real weaknesses showed vs cohort leaders. UI feels dated vs Sprout Social plus Buffer, with the streaming-column dashboard from the 2010s era still as the default home view rather than the modern card-based feed competitors moved to. Feature velocity has slowed visibly in the AI era. While Sprout shipped optimal-send-time AI plus Smart Inbox tagging in 2024, Hootsuite shipped OwlyWriter as the headline AI feature but lagged on integrated AI throughout the workflow.

Verdict for the social-media-management cohort: Hootsuite is the cohort leader specifically for enterprise teams already locked into multi-year Hootsuite contracts plus brands managing presence on 10 plus platforms where breadth matters more than depth. For new buyers without legacy lock-in, Sprout Social offers stronger AI features and Buffer offers better SMB pricing. Pairs naturally with Sprout Social for direct head-to-head evaluation where buyers compare incumbent vs newer entrant.

Avoid if

Avoid Hootsuite for new buyers without legacy Hootsuite lock-in where Sprout Social plus Buffer offer better feature velocity and modern UI, for SMBs where Hootsuite pricing exceeds value vs Buffer Free or Later Starter tiers, or for teams prioritizing AI-first workflows where Sprout shipped more AI features in 2024 vs Hootsuite OwlyWriter alone.

About Hootsuite

Hootsuite is a social media management platform that lets teams schedule, publish, monitor, and analyse content across every major social platform - Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, and YouTube - from a single dashboard. The AI writing tool, OwlyWriter AI, generates social media captions, post ideas, and hashtag suggestions from a brief prompt, dramatically reducing the time spent on content creation. For marketing teams managing multiple accounts or brands, Hootsuite's scheduling calendar, approval workflows, and team permission system turn social media from a reactive task into a planned editorial operation. The social listening features track brand mentions, competitor activity, and trending conversations in real time, making it useful for monitoring reputation and identifying engagement opportunities. The analytics suite aggregates performance data across all platforms and generates PDF reports suitable for client or executive presentations. Hootsuite is the platform of choice for mid-market and enterprise marketing teams who need governance (approvals, brand consistency, legal review) alongside publishing capabilities. Smaller teams and solo creators often prefer Buffer or Later for simplicity and price.

Hootsuite on MytheAi

Compared with Hootsuite (4)

  • Hootsuite vs Buffertie

Hootsuite is the enterprise-grade social media platform for teams with complex workflows; Buffer is the simpler, more affordable option for small teams and creators. Buffer wins on price and simplicity; Hootsuite wins on team features and analytics.

  • Hootsuite vs Sprout Socialtie

Sprout Social and Hootsuite are the two most widely deployed enterprise social media management platforms, but they serve different points on the team-size and budget spectrum. Sprout Social is built for enterprise marketing and communications teams that need the deepest analytics, the most sophisticated social listening, and integration with CRM and customer success platforms. Its Salesforce and HubSpot integrations, premium listening module, and presentation-ready reports position it for organisations where social media is tied to revenue attribution and brand health metrics. Hootsuite covers a broader range of team sizes and use cases: it has an enterprise tier with comparable capabilities to Sprout, but its lower entry price and larger ecosystem of app integrations (150+) make it more accessible for mid-market teams, agencies, and organisations that need a capable platform without enterprise pricing. Both platforms publish to every major social network, manage a unified social inbox, offer AI caption generation, and provide analytics. The decision between them tends to come down to budget and analytics depth. Sprout Social is the stronger tool if social media analytics and CRM integration are central to how your team reports results. Hootsuite is the better starting point if you need broad platform coverage and integration flexibility at a lower entry price.

  • Hootsuite vs Agorapulsetie

Agorapulse and Hootsuite both target social media managers and agencies who need publishing, inbox management, and reporting from one platform, but they have distinct approaches that make each better for specific team types. Agorapulse is built around inbox-first social media management: the unified social inbox that aggregates every comment, DM, mention, and review from all platforms is its central feature, with everything else (publishing, reporting, listening) built around the idea that responding to your community is as important as creating content for it. Its per-profile pricing model (not per user) is particularly favourable for agencies managing many client accounts. Hootsuite is built around publishing-first social media management: the content calendar, bulk scheduling, and broad platform support are its strongest features. Its integration ecosystem (150+ apps) is significantly larger than Agorapulse's, and it has better brand recognition with clients. For an agency whose workflow is primarily community management, client reporting, and approval workflows, Agorapulse's inbox management and client portal are the stronger fit. For a team whose workflow is primarily publishing at scale, content planning, and campaign management across many platforms, Hootsuite's scheduling depth and integrations are the better choice.

  • Hootsuite vs Sprinklrtie

Sprinklr vs Hootsuite compares the enterprise unified CX platform against the leading social media management suite - a comparison that is partly about feature overlap and partly about whether an organisation needs social media management or a unified customer experience intelligence platform. Hootsuite is the go-to social media management tool for marketing teams: scheduling, publishing, monitoring, analytics, and team workflows across all major social networks in a single dashboard. It is a known, trusted, and widely adopted tool with a large partner and integration ecosystem. Sprinklr is a different category of product. It consolidates social media management, customer service, marketing, advertising, and research into a single AI-powered platform used by over 1,000 global enterprises. Sprinklr is not competing with Hootsuite for the typical marketing team - it is competing for the budget of large organisations that currently use multiple specialist platforms and want to consolidate. For mid-market and enterprise teams whose customer service, social marketing, and brand research currently run on separate tools with separate contracts and separate data silos, Sprinklr makes a compelling consolidation case. For marketing teams that primarily need social publishing, monitoring, and analytics, Hootsuite delivers what is needed at a fraction of Sprinklr's cost and implementation complexity.
