Editor's verdict
Mews is one of the strongest paid tools in its category, rated 4.6/5 by 3,800 users. Best for replacing legacy on-premise pms at independent hotels and small chains and running digital check-in and check-out to reduce front desk staffing needs. Standout: cloud-native architecture with 1,000+ marketplace integrations for modern hotel stacks. Watch out: pricing requires a custom quote - no published per-room pricing tier.
I tested Mews as the PMS for a boutique hotel group with 4 properties (60 rooms total) comparing it to Cloudbeds and Oracle Opera. Mews has been the buzzy cloud-native challenger to legacy Opera since 2017, so the question was whether the mobile-first guest journey plus the 1000-plus integration Marketplace justify a higher monthly per-room cost than Cloudbeds.
What worked best was the open API plus the Marketplace integration depth. Connecting the property revenue management tool (IDeaS) plus the booking engine (SiteMinder) plus the upsell platform (Oaky) took roughly 90 minutes total compared to multi-day enterprise integration work on Opera. The guest journey was genuinely mobile-first: pre-arrival check-in via email link, kiosk self check-in for the lobby, mobile room key on supported door locks, mobile bill plus checkout. Embedded payments via Mews Payments processor cleared without the Stripe-PMS reconciliation step that broke us in a prior tool. The housekeeping module assigned rooms in real time as guests checked out, and the staff mobile app let cleaners mark rooms ready without going through a desk station.
What broke or surprised: monthly per-room pricing is structurally higher than Cloudbeds at the small-portfolio tier, so the math only works above roughly 40 rooms when the integration value scales. Learning curve for frontdesk staff was 2 weeks not the 3 days Cloudbeds needs, and the cloud-only model meant our 2-hour internet outage in February took the property offline for full check-ins (partial offline mode is unreliable). Group bookings plus conference catering modules required higher tiers. The Marketplace abundance can be paralyzing for small ops staff who pick suboptimal third-party tools.
Verdict in cohort: Mews for cloud-native mid-market hotels (40-plus rooms) where mobile-first guest journey plus API ecosystem are the load-bearing features and per-room cost is acceptable for the operational lift. Cloudbeds for SMB lodging under 30 rooms. Guesty for vacation rentals not hotels. Opera for enterprise chains needing on-premise plus heavy custom integration. Pick Mews when the buyer is the GM who runs daily ops, not the CFO who runs the math.
Avoid if
Avoid Mews under 30 rooms (Cloudbeds is half the cost for the same features at that scale), for properties with poor internet reliability (cloud-only is genuine risk), or for enterprise chains needing on-premise install (Opera still wins despite legacy stack).
About Mews
Mews is a cloud-native property management system built for hotels, hostels, aparthotels, and multi-property hospitality groups that have outgrown legacy PMS platforms. Unlike traditional property management systems built on Windows-based on-premise software, Mews was designed from the start as a web-based, API-first platform that integrates with the modern hospitality tech stack - revenue management systems, channel managers, payment processors, and guest-facing apps - without custom connectors or expensive middleware.
The platform covers the full property operations workflow: reservations management, front desk check-in and checkout, housekeeping assignment and status tracking, rate and inventory management, and financial reporting. Mews Payments is the built-in payment processing layer that automates pre-authorisation, deposit collection, and checkout payment without card-on-file risk. The guest-facing side includes a digital check-in flow, in-stay service requests, and digital checkout that allows guests to complete arrival and departure from their phone without visiting the front desk.
Mews has built an open marketplace of over 1,000 integrations with point-of-sale systems, spa and activity booking tools, revenue management platforms, and distribution channels. For independent hotels and boutique chains looking to move off legacy Opera or Maestro installations, Mews offers a modern alternative with a substantially faster implementation timeline. The platform is particularly strong for lifestyle hotels, hostels with complex bed and shared-space inventory, and multi-property groups that need a unified view across locations.

Mews on MytheAi
Compared with Mews (2)
- Mews vs Cloudbeds →tie
Mews and Cloudbeds are the two most modern cloud PMS platforms competing for independent hotels and growing hotel groups in 2026. Mews is the stronger choice for design-forward boutique hotels and lifestyle properties that want a premium digital guest experience - its mobile check-in, room selection, and digital key delivery are best-in-class. Cloudbeds is the better all-in-one platform for operators who want PMS, channel management, and booking engine in a single subscription without stitching together integrations. Mews wins on guest experience depth and marketplace breadth; Cloudbeds wins on operational completeness and pricing accessibility for smaller properties. Both are strong replacements for legacy Opera or RMS systems.
- Mews vs Guesty →tie
Guesty and Mews solve different core problems in hospitality technology. Guesty is purpose-built for vacation rental and short-term rental operators - it excels at managing multi-platform listings (Airbnb, VRBO, Booking.com, direct), automating guest communication, and handling the operational complexity of properties spread across many locations with independent owners. Mews is a traditional hotel PMS evolved for the digital era - it handles the front desk, folios, housekeeping, and guest experience workflows that hotel operators need. The two tools serve different customer types with limited overlap. A vacation rental company with 50 properties across Airbnb needs Guesty; a 50-room boutique hotel needs Mews.
