Recraft

I tested Recraft by generating roughly 60 design assets across 4 use cases: vector logos and brand marks, app-icon sets in multiple platform sizes, custom illustrations matching a brand style, and SVG icon collections for a UI kit. Compared output against Ideogram (S159) for text-heavy work and Midjourney for creative imagery on overlapping briefs. The cohort I had in mind was designers, product teams, and brand teams needing AI-generated graphics as actual editable vector output rather than rasterized PNGs, distinct from Ideogram (text-rendering raster specialty) and Midjourney (creative imagery without vector capability).

The vector-output capability is the actual product differentiator. Generating a logo concept and getting back a clean SVG that opened in Figma with editable shapes, paths, and grouped layers transformed AI image generation from a draft-and-trace workflow to a usable-asset workflow. The brand-style consistency feature where you upload reference assets and Recraft generates new ones matching the visual language worked surprisingly well on icon-set generation: 12 new icons in matching style took 3 prompts and 5 minutes. The UI kit and design-system support including frame-aware sizing for app icons across iOS, Android, and web platforms saved hours of manual export-and-resize work.

What broke me was the artistic quality gap on creative imagery and the niche pricing model. For pure creative photographic or illustrative imagery without vector requirements, Midjourney still produces noticeably better results: composition, lighting, and aesthetic refinement remain Midjourneys advantage. Some complex prompts in Recraft produced overly-simple shapes that looked like clipart rather than premium vector art, and rescuing them required several iteration cycles. Pricing per generation credit gets tracked tightly and a serious design exploration session can burn through monthly credits faster than the marketing implies.

Recraft is the right pick for designers and product teams that specifically need AI-generated graphics as editable vector output (SVG, icon sets, logo concepts, UI assets). Skip it for pure creative imagery without vector requirements (Midjourney remains the stronger creative tool), for text-heavy designs like marketing posters with embedded headlines (Ideogram has stronger text rendering), or for high-volume rapid exploration workflows where the per-credit pricing model penalizes iteration.
