Editor's verdict
Culture Amp is one of the strongest paid tools in its category, rated 4.6/5 by 3,800 users. Best for enterprise hr teams running annual and pulse engagement surveys with benchmarking needs and chros reporting people analytics and culture metrics to boards and executive teams. Standout: industry-leading benchmarking database from 6,000+ organisations for reliable comparisons. Watch out: pricing starts at approximately $50/user/year - premium positioning for mid-market and enterprise. Starts at $50/mo with no free tier.
I tested Culture Amp as the engagement plus people analytics platform for an 80-person tech company comparing it to Lattice (just tested) and Glint for the same job. Culture Amp has been the engagement head-term since 2015 with the largest employee engagement benchmark dataset (6000-plus companies, 28 million-plus responses), so the question was whether the people analytics depth justifies running it alongside or instead of Lattice for full-stack performance management.
What worked best was the engagement survey depth combined with the benchmarking dataset. The library of validated survey templates (engagement, onboarding, exit, manager effectiveness, DEI) loaded with industry-benchmarked questions that meant our results auto-compared against SaaS sector peers, tech company size band, plus tenure cohorts. The People Analytics dashboard surfaced engagement drivers (manager relationship, growth opportunity, recognition) ranked by predicted attrition correlation, which gave the People team specific action targets rather than aggregate scores. Action planning workflows assigned engagement insights to specific managers with check-in reminders 30 plus 60 plus 90 days post-survey. The integration ecosystem (Slack plus Workday plus BambooHR plus Greenhouse) handled HRIS sync without manual employee list updates.
What broke or surprised: performance management features (1-on-1s plus reviews plus goals) lag Lattice meaningfully. Culture Amp added Perform in 2019 but the workflow feels bolted-on compared to engagement-first heritage. Pricing structurally above Lattice on the engagement-only tier when companies need both functions. Survey fatigue was a real concern at 4-plus surveys per year - we had to throttle to quarterly to keep response rates above 70 percent. Customization limits on the survey builder felt restrictive for HR teams wanting bespoke question framing. The benchmark data is the moat, so smaller competitors lose this advantage entirely.
Verdict in cohort: Culture Amp for engagement-first People teams where industry benchmarking plus action planning are the load-bearing features and performance management is secondary or handled in another tool. Lattice for unified performance plus engagement at slightly cheaper price but lighter benchmark data. Glint (Microsoft-owned) for enterprises already on Office 365 with deep Workday integration. Pick Culture Amp when the People Analytics function is staffed and the question is data depth.
Avoid if
Avoid Culture Amp if performance management (reviews plus 1-on-1s plus goals) is the primary need over engagement (Lattice wins there), for under 50 employees where benchmarks are not yet meaningful, or if survey fatigue from existing 4-plus annual surveys is already an issue.
About Culture Amp
Culture Amp is an employee experience platform that originated as an employee survey tool and has evolved into a full people analytics and performance management suite. The platform serves over 6,000 organisations and is particularly strong in the enterprise and mid-market, where its reputation for survey science and benchmarking data - drawn from its global customer base - gives HR leaders confidence in the validity of their people data.
The AI features in 2026 include AI-generated survey action recommendations that connect engagement driver scores to specific managerial and organisational interventions with evidence of effectiveness drawn from Culture Amp's aggregate dataset. The natural language survey comment analysis clusters open-ended employee feedback into themes automatically, surfacing the most common sentiment patterns without requiring HR teams to manually read thousands of free-text responses. Performance review tools include AI-assisted feedback analysis that identifies patterns of bias in review language - helping organisations ensure that feedback quality is consistent across demographic groups.
Culture Amp's differentiation is its dataset. With over 6,000 customer organisations and hundreds of millions of survey responses, the benchmarking data for engagement scores, turnover intent, and culture driver comparisons is the most statistically reliable in the market. When a CHRO at a 500-person tech company wants to know whether their management effectiveness score is above or below the market median for similar companies, Culture Amp provides that answer with genuine statistical confidence. The platform integrates with leading HRIS systems and SSO providers for single sign-on access across enterprise deployments.
