I have run Make alongside Zapier on MytheAi since 2023, with about 20 active Scenarios handling the higher-volume workflows: image processing pipelines, daily DB hygiene jobs, and bulk newsletter segmentation. The visual flow editor (where each scenario renders as a directed graph of modules) is what justifies leaving the Zapier defaults: complex branching logic with iterators, aggregators, and routers reads more clearly than a Zapier flat list of steps.
The pricing math is decisive at volume. Make Core at $9/month includes 10,000 operations; the equivalent Zapier Pro at $19.99 includes 750 tasks. For my daily image-processing pipeline that runs 6,000 operations per month, the cost difference is roughly 8x in favor of Make. For any workflow above 2,000 tasks per month, this single attribute drives the platform choice.
The iterator and aggregator modules (which loop over arrays and roll results back up) handle bulk operations that Zapier struggles with. Processing 200 Supabase rows in a single scenario run, transforming each, and posting a digest to Slack at the end is a 5-module Make scenario. The same workflow in Zapier requires either a custom Webhook trigger with Code by Zapier or 200 separate Zap runs, both of which feel hacky.
Where Make falls short: the app catalog (about 1500 apps as of mid-2026) lags Zapier 7000+, niche tools take longer to land on Make than Zapier, the visual flow editor has a real learning curve for non-technical users (the first 3-4 hours feel disorienting), and error handling still requires manual workaround patterns (filter modules that catch failures plus a retry router) where Zapier provides built-in error paths.
For volume-heavy workflows or branch-heavy logic, Make is the right default. For breadth of integrations and ease of setup for non-technical operators, Zapier remains the safer pick. I run both and route each new workflow to whichever platform fits the specific job.
Avoid if
You need integration with a niche SaaS that exists on Zapier but not Make (the 5500-app catalog gap is real for newer launches).
