Editor's verdict
Notion AI is one of the strongest freemium tools in its category, rated 4.6/5 by 5,700 users. Best for summarizing meeting notes and drafting documents and wikis. Standout: seamlessly integrated into Notion. Watch out: requires Notion subscription.
I have used Notion AI as the in-workspace assistant on the MytheAi internal docs and product roadmap since the 2023 launch, with daily use across roughly 800 docs and 12 databases. The single feature I rely on most is workspace-wide Q&A: I can ask a natural-language question and Notion AI searches across all my docs, databases, and meeting notes to surface a citation-grounded answer. For an internal knowledge base of 200+ pages, this replaces the search-then-skim workflow with an answer-with-sources flow that compounds in value over time.
Database autofill (where you point Notion AI at a column and it generates content for every row) is the second feature I underestimated. Filling in 50 product use cases from a one-line product description takes 90 seconds in Notion AI versus an hour of manual work or a custom GPT loop. For ops-heavy teams running structured data through CRM-like Notion databases, this is genuinely useful.
Meeting transcription and summary (added 2024) handles internal recordings well. I drop a Loom or Zoom recording into a Notion page, Notion AI generates a structured summary plus action items. Quality is roughly 80% of Otter.ai or Fireflies on the same recording, but the in-Notion UX is the win: the summary lives next to the meeting notes and roadmap doc instead of in a separate transcription app.
Where Notion AI falls short: raw output quality on long-form generation is noticeably below ChatGPT or Claude (Notion AI runs on a smaller model tuned for in-app helper tasks, not deep reasoning), the $10/seat pricing compounds for larger teams (Plus $10/seat, Business $20/seat), the in-page AI UI adds friction to an already-busy Notion editor, and there is no API or programmatic access to the AI features outside the Notion app.
For Notion-native teams already running their docs in Notion, the $10/seat add-on is worth it for workspace Q&A alone. For teams using a different docs platform, replicating this functionality with ChatGPT custom GPT plus a simple sync workflow gets 70% of the value at no extra cost.
Avoid if
You do not run your docs in Notion (the value is entirely in the workspace integration, not the AI quality itself). Your output volume is high enough that the per-seat $10 cost compounds painfully for a 20+ person team. Or you need deep long-form generation quality where ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro will outperform Notion AI on the same prompt.
About Notion AI
Notion AI is the artificial intelligence layer built directly into Notion, the popular all-in-one workspace used by millions of teams for notes, wikis, project management, and documentation. Unlike standalone AI tools, Notion AI has full context of everything you have written in your workspace - your meeting notes, project briefs, product specs, and team documentation - and can work across all of it without copy-pasting into a separate window. The most powerful use of Notion AI is autofill. You can create a property in a database - say, a "Status Summary" column - and have Notion AI automatically generate a one-sentence summary of each project based on the page content. Applied across a project tracker with dozens of active items, this feature alone can save hours of manual status reporting per week. Notion AI also handles the full range of writing assistance you would expect: drafting new content from a prompt, rewriting existing text to be clearer or more concise, translating content into other languages, generating action items from meeting notes, and explaining complex content in simpler terms. The quality of the output is broadly good, though it uses OpenAI models under the hood and does not offer the same depth of reasoning as Claude or GPT-4o on complex analytical tasks. For teams that live in Notion, the integration value is substantial. Your AI assistant knows the terminology in your product wiki, the format of your meeting notes, and the structure of your project pages - so its output fits your existing content rather than requiring heavy editing to match your style. Notion AI is an add-on at $10 per member per month on top of the base Notion plan. It is most valuable for teams that use Notion as their primary documentation and knowledge management system.

Notion AI on MytheAi
Compared with Notion AI (6)
- Notion AI vs Airtable →tie
Notion AI and Airtable both help teams organise information, but they solve different problems. Notion is a flexible all-in-one workspace - documents, wikis, project tracking, and AI writing in one place. Airtable is a structured database platform - ideal for teams managing inventory, CRM data, content calendars, or any workflow that needs relational data. Notion wins for teams that live in docs; Airtable wins for teams that need database logic.
- Notion AI vs Coda →Notion AI wins
Coda and Notion AI are the leading AI-enhanced document and knowledge platforms. Notion has broader adoption and a stronger ecosystem; Coda has a more powerful formula engine and better native automation. For teams that want deep doc-as-app functionality, Coda wins on capability. For teams that want the most-used tool in the market, Notion AI wins on ecosystem.
- Notion AI vs Mem Ai →tie
Notion AI and Mem are both AI-powered note-taking and knowledge management tools, but they come at the problem differently. Notion is a structured workspace platform with an AI assistant added on top - ideal for teams who want databases, wikis, and project management alongside smart writing help. Mem is an AI-first personal knowledge base that automatically organises your notes based on context and surfaces relevant information without manual tagging or folder structures. Notion AI wins for teams who need shared knowledge and structured collaboration. Mem wins for individuals who want an AI that thinks and organises for them.
- Notion AI vs Notebooklm →tie
Notion AI and NotebookLM are both AI tools for working with written information, but they serve different workflows. Notion AI is an assistant embedded inside a productivity workspace - it helps with writing, summarising, and organising work within Notion pages and databases. NotebookLM is a dedicated research and study tool that grounds AI responses entirely in documents you upload, with a focus on deep analysis and a unique Audio Overview feature. Choose Notion AI if you already use Notion for work. Choose NotebookLM for serious research on specific document sets.
- Notion AI vs Taskade →tie
Taskade and Notion AI both bring AI to team productivity, but with different foundations. Taskade is an AI-native workspace built around AI agents that can run workflows autonomously. Notion AI is a powerful add-on layered onto Notion's flexible document and database system. Taskade wins for teams that want AI-driven project automation. Notion AI wins for teams already in Notion who want writing and thinking assistance within their existing workspace.
- Notion AI vs Basecamp →tie
Basecamp vs Notion AI compares two tools that have both chosen simplicity over feature bloat, but have arrived at very different products. Basecamp is a project management tool with deliberate constraints: message boards, to-do lists, file storage, a schedule, and group chat - nothing more. Its unique Hill Charts give a nuanced view of project progress. The $299/month flat pricing model makes it excellent value for teams with 20+ people. Notion AI is a flexible workspace that combines notes, databases, wikis, task management, and AI assistance in a single tool, adapting to each team's preferred structure. Basecamp wins when teams want opinionated project communication structure and a predictable, flat pricing model. Notion AI wins when teams want flexibility to build their own system of work - documentation, knowledge management, and task tracking in a single connected workspace. The choice is often between Basecamp's calm clarity and Notion AI's flexible power.
