Editor's verdict
Close is a solid paid pick, rated 4.4/5 by 3,280 users. Best for sdr and ae teams running high-volume outbound call and email sequences and startups building a repeatable inside sales motion from the ground up. Standout: built-in VoIP calling with automatic recording and transcription. Watch out: no free plan - minimum $49/month. Starts at $49/mo with no free tier.
I tested Close CRM on a 14-day free trial running a simulated outbound campaign of 50 leads through cold email plus phone plus SMS sequences, scoring it against HubSpot CRM (session 139), Pipedrive (session 168), Zoho CRM (session 169), Salesforce Einstein (session 134), and Freshsales (session 171). Intent: complete the CRM 6-way cohort and pin down which CRM wins for outbound-heavy sales teams under 25 reps where calling plus emailing volume matters more than enterprise governance.
What worked was the built-in calling and the sequence builder. Close has native VoIP (the dialer just works, no Twilio plugin, no RingCentral add-on, all calls are recorded and transcribed automatically), and the sequence builder ties email plus call plus SMS plus LinkedIn touches into a single cadence with conditional branching. I ran a four-step cadence over 10 days and the activity feed surfaced reply-likely leads at the top automatically, which made daily triage 10 minutes instead of 30 minutes in HubSpot. Pricing is transparent and per-seat without the seat-tier paywalls that Salesforce piles on.
What broke was reporting depth and the marketing-side ecosystem. Close has solid pipeline plus activity reports but loses ground to HubSpot plus Salesforce on multi-touch attribution plus marketing automation plus full-funnel dashboards. The integration ecosystem is smaller (60-plus integrations vs HubSpot 1000-plus and Salesforce app exchange), so if you need niche connectors you may be stuck building Zapier flows. Mobile app is functional but feels secondary to the desktop experience.
Verdict: Close wins for outbound sales teams under 25 reps where calling cadence matters more than marketing automation. Pipedrive wins for pure pipeline visualization. HubSpot wins for marketing-plus-sales unified GTM. Salesforce wins for enterprise governance. Freshsales wins on price-features for SMB. Zoho CRM wins for cost-conscious teams already in the Zoho ecosystem. Six-way cohort now complete for the CRM /compare cluster.
Avoid if
Avoid Close if you need deep marketing automation plus multi-touch attribution plus a large integration ecosystem, or if your sales motion is more inbound-marketing-led than outbound-call-heavy. HubSpot plus Pipedrive plus Salesforce win those scenarios. Close is specialist outbound CRM software.
About Close
Close is a CRM built specifically for inside sales teams that run outreach-heavy motions - SDRs, account executives, and sales-led startups that make a high volume of calls, emails, and sequences daily. The platform differentiates on its built-in communication layer: VoIP calling with automatic call recording and transcription, two-way SMS, and email sequences are native features, not integrations. Sales reps can call, email, and follow up without switching between tools.
The AI features include an email writer that generates personalised drafts from opportunity context, automatic call summarisation that pulls action items from transcripts, and lead scoring based on engagement data. Close's workflow automation handles lead assignment, follow-up scheduling, and sequence triggering based on prospect behaviour. Smart Views - Close's saved filter system - allow reps and managers to instantly surface the leads that need attention today.
Close is opinionated about what a sales CRM should do: help reps make more touches per day, not add data entry overhead. The interface is intentionally minimal. Reporting focuses on activity metrics (calls made, emails sent, tasks completed) and pipeline metrics (deals created, won, and lost by rep and period). For venture-backed startups and growth-stage companies running outbound sales motions, Close is one of the strongest purpose-built options. Pricing starts at $49/month for 1 user on the Startup plan, scaling to team plans with advanced reporting.

Close on MytheAi
Compared with Close (1)
- Close vs Folk →tie
Close and Folk both target modern, smaller sales teams looking for an alternative to Salesforce, but they optimize for very different sales motions. Close is built for inside sales teams running outbound or high-velocity inbound: the dialer is the centerpiece, AI handles call summaries and email drafts, and the workflow is optimized for reps making 50+ touches per day. Folk is built for relationship-driven sales: founders, consultants, and small teams running consultative sales cycles where each contact matters individually. Folk's AI builds the CRM from your inbox and calendar automatically, eliminating manual data entry. Choose Close if your reps spend the day on calls. Choose Folk if your sales motion is built around relationships and warm introductions.
