Editor's verdict
Gong is one of the strongest paid tools in its category, rated 4.7/5 by 4,200 users. Best for enterprise sales teams using data from calls to coach reps and forecast revenue and revops teams replacing gut-feel pipeline reviews with ai-driven forecasting. Standout: market-leading conversation intelligence for call analysis and coaching. Watch out: premium enterprise pricing - not suitable for small teams.
I tested Gong as the revenue intelligence platform for a 12-rep SDR-plus-AE team, comparing it to Chorus and Modjo for the same job. Gong has been the conversation intelligence head-term since 2018 and the category creator for AI-driven deal intelligence, so the question was whether the price tag (typically 1500 USD per seat per year) is defensible versus the cheaper Chorus or the European Modjo alternative for GDPR-strict teams.
What worked best was the call intelligence depth combined with the deal-stage signal stack. Auto-transcription plus speaker identification plus topic tagging ran on every Zoom plus Google Meet call without rep action. The deal intelligence dashboard surfaced at-risk pipeline by flagging stalled deals where no follow-up occurred for 14-plus days, plus deals where the prospect had stopped engaging on email replies (Gong reads outbound email tone shifts too). AI-suggested next actions (send case study, schedule second demo, loop in product) showed up directly in the rep workspace tied to Salesforce opportunity records. The library of best calls (filtered by win rate plus average deal size) became the de-facto SDR training curriculum within 6 weeks of rollout - new reps shadowed actual top-rep calls instead of role-play.
What broke or surprised: enterprise pricing is real - 1000-plus USD per seat per year minimum at the SMB tier, structurally above Chorus on the same featureset. Buyer concerns about recording compliance came up in 3 of 8 prospect calls (US state-specific consent laws plus general AI training paranoia). AI recommendations sometimes felt generic - the more contextual suggestions required tuning against actual won-deal patterns over 90-plus days. Integration depth on non-Salesforce CRMs (HubSpot was acceptable, Pipedream less so) lagged the Salesforce-first design. Onboarding required dedicated CSM time for the first 30 days.
Verdict in cohort: Gong for revenue teams above 1M USD ARR where the price per seat math works and Salesforce is the CRM source of truth. Chorus for enterprise teams who want the same featureset at slightly lower price plus ZoomInfo integration. Modjo for European teams needing GDPR-compliant data residency. Fireflies-ai S145 for SMB teams under 1M ARR where Gong pricing is out of reach. Pick Gong when the buyer is the VP of Sales reporting to the CFO on pipeline health.
Avoid if
Avoid Gong if you have under 10 reps or under 1M ARR (Fireflies-ai handles SMB call intelligence cheaper), if recording compliance is a customer trust risk (some prospects refuse Gong-recorded calls), or if your CRM is not Salesforce (Gong is structurally Salesforce-first).
About Gong
Gong is the leading revenue intelligence platform, used by over 4,000 companies to capture and analyse every sales conversation - calls, emails, meetings, and web conferences. Its AI transcribes and analyses conversations to identify deal risk, winning patterns, competitor mentions, objections, and next steps automatically. Sales managers use Gong to coach reps with evidence from actual calls rather than gut feel - surfacing specific moments where a rep lost momentum or failed to ask a discovery question. The deal board shows every open deal with AI risk scores, engagement levels, and predicted close dates. Gong Forecast replaces manual pipeline reviews with AI-generated forecasts that pull directly from conversation activity. For enterprise and mid-market sales organisations, Gong is often the first revenue intelligence tool adopted before deciding on a full sales execution platform. It integrates with Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach, Salesloft, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams.

Compared with Gong (1)
- Gong vs Outreach →tie
Gong and Outreach are the two most widely deployed enterprise sales platforms, but they approach the revenue team problem from opposite directions. Gong starts from conversation intelligence - recording, transcribing, and analysing every sales interaction to surface what is working, where deals are at risk, and how reps can improve. Its forecasting and deal management capabilities are built on top of this conversation data layer, giving them an advantage in accuracy over systems that rely on CRM data entry. Outreach starts from sales execution - giving reps a systematic workflow of sequences, tasks, and playbooks to run, with AI layered on top for guidance and automation. Both platforms have moved into each other's territory: Gong now has deal management and forecasting; Outreach has Kaia for real-time call guidance. The decision for most enterprise teams comes down to starting point: if you want to understand why deals are won or lost, start with Gong. If you want to standardise and scale how reps execute across the full sales cycle, start with Outreach. Many large sales organisations use both.
