I tested Outreach as the sales engagement platform for a 15-rep SDR plus AE team comparing it to Salesloft, Lemlist S141, and Smartlead S141 for the same job. Outreach has been the sales engagement head-term since 2014 for enterprise SDR teams running multi-channel sequences (email plus phone plus LinkedIn plus tasks), so the question was whether the price tag (typically 130 USD per seat per month minimum) justifies running it over the cheaper outbound-email-focused Lemlist or Smartlead alternatives.

What worked best was the sequence engine combined with the Salesforce-first CRM sync. Sequences fired email plus call task plus LinkedIn touch plus follow-up across 7-to-14 step cadences with branching logic based on prospect response, and the Salesforce sync updated opportunity records plus activity logs without rep action. The AI-powered Kaia voice assistant transcribed live calls (similar to Gong S177 just-tested) plus surfaced talk-track suggestions during the call. Deal Intelligence views showed pipeline health at the rep level plus territory level with predicted close probability per opportunity. Engage workflows for AE follow-up post-meeting auto-fired thank-you emails plus next-step prompts within 30 minutes of the calendar event ending. Integration depth on Salesforce was deepest in category.

What broke or surprised: enterprise pricing is real - 130 USD per seat per month minimum at SMB tier with annual contracts pushed effective cost above 200 USD per seat. Onboarding required dedicated CSM time for 2-plus weeks before reps were productive. AI sequence suggestions sometimes felt generic compared to Lemlist personalization depth. CRM integration on non-Salesforce (HubSpot was acceptable, Pipedrive lighter) lagged the Salesforce-first design. Sequence builder UI showed its age compared to newer challengers, and mobile rep app was functional but limited.
